Are EEG sponges reusable or disposable?

The EEG sponges used with the SAM system are reusable. After each recording session, the sponges can be removed, cleaned, and prepared for future use as part of the standard EEG cap maintenance process.

Reusable EEG sponges

The EEG cap uses sponge inserts to support electrode-to-scalp contact during EEG recordings. After the recording session, the sponges are removed from the electrode holders before the cap is cleaned.

Before reuse, the sponges should be cleaned and prepared according to the approved cleaning procedure.

Reference electrode

The reference electrode is attached to the patient's ear lobe during setup. These electrodes are reusable and should be cleaned according to the applicable maintenance procedures after use.

Notes

  • EEG sponges are removed from the cap before cleaning.
  • The electrode holders remain in place during cap cleaning.
  • The reference electrode is reusable.
  • All components should be cleaned and maintained according to the approved cleaning procedures.
