How long does a EEG recording session take?

The total duration of a EEG recording session is typically about 15 minutes. This includes preparation and a structured EEG recording with eyes‑open and eyes‑closed phases, each lasting a few minutes.

EEG Recording Duration

During a QEEG session, brain activity is recorded in two defined phases:
  • Eyes‑open recording
  • Eyes‑closed recording
Each phase has:
  • A default duration of 3 minutes
  • A configurable range of 2 to 5 minutes per phase
Using default settings, the EEG recording itself lasts around 6 minutes.

Preparation Time

Before the recording begins, time is needed to:
  • Prepare the user
  • Set up the EEG cap and electrodes
  • Connect the amplifier
  • Check signal quality
Preparation time can vary depending on setup and user conditions.

Total Session Time

A complete QEEG session includes:
  • Preparation and setup
  • Eyes‑open EEG recording
  • Eyes‑closed EEG recording
  • Saving or reviewing the recording
When combining preparation and recording, the total session time is typically around 15 minutes.
